When I was an adult literacy tutor, I found out that coloured overlays may help people with dyslexia, as some of them fiind it harder to read black printed on white. I never used this in practice, as very few of our students were statemented as dyslexic (though many believed they were dyslexic). I gather that overlays may also help people with Irlens syndrome (a light-based visual processing problem) and ADHD, though the jury is out on this. The British Dyslexia Association advises “overlays must not be promoted as the first strategy to help children with reading difficulties. If children have visual difficulties, it is essential that these are diagnosed and managed correctly by qualified, registered professionals.” In other words, overlays are not a silver bullet. (If they were, a lot of professional diagnosticians would be out of a job.)However, if use is professionally recommended for you or your child this set may be suitable. There are six different colours because people’s needs vary according to their particular difficulty. The overlays are good quality, and each is supplied with a peel-off transparent film (which is quite hard to peel off). Reasonable value.
