In the specs, the light source is listed as "LED." But no, it's really a green laser, and very bright. The USB connection has no cord; I plug mine into a USB "extension cord". It appears to be quite sturdy. I just received mine, so no news about durability or lifetime. The company warns about keeping the battery charged, but that's a feature of all lithium batteries. I bought this to replace an old pointer that used disposable batteries; this one is much nicer. The beam is definitely visible in the night sky (which is what I bought it for), more so than others I've owned/used. Re. the "crystal" multi-patterns: who cares?! :-)

This green laser is made of high quality metal and very durable. It is very powerful and user friendly. The rechargeable batteries are a great feature. You just unscrew the back cap and there’s a built-in USB that you can plug directly into a computer, adapter or a power strip that has a USB port which is what I do. It lasts a long time between charges. It’s easy to handle being only about 6” long and a circumstance of about a dime. It has an attached landyard as well. I am completely pleased with this laser.

The device is very well made. It charges quickly. It produces a very bright monochromatic green light. I highly recommend this device.

Nice unit, feels sturdy, laser is definitely bright. One word of caution ... Be careful if you take this thing apart. When you unscrew the battery and remove it from the tube, it sits on a spring AND there is a very, very small plastic lens that sits on top of that spring. I spent 10 minutes searching for it on the floor and finally found it. One other suggestion - It would have been great if they had threaded the rear of the laser so that when you took the "star cap" off the front you could screw it into the back to prevent laying it down and losing it. All in all I would recommend it and plan on buying a second unit for my travel bag.
