I decided to purchase this particular blend because I had purchased their chai tea blend of spices and found that to be very good quality so I knew that this one should be as well. It makes making khichdi very simple the instructions are on the back of the package. The value you get for your money is great because you don't need a whole lot of this the quality of the spices that they're using is top notch. I have enjoyed making it anytime my digestive track needs a bit of a reset or I'm feeling under the weather. It's just a simple wholesome meal easy to digest. And this is very flavorful of a blend.

Many years ago I bought a small jar of "curry" spice and when I used it up I could not for the life of me find more, none of the curry spice mixes I found tasted the same. Fast forward to not long ago and I bought some Moong dal beans for a different recipe and this popped up on my feed and I decided why not. The price was good and I enjoy trying new things. It hit the nostalgia button right away with the scent, so I tried it in some of those old recipes I used to eat. (Lentils soup or dal was the one i really missed) It's milder in taste, but what I was looking for. I've also added it to ramen and Mac n cheese for a flavor boost and it went well.I also tried the recipe on the package, and while it's very inexact on how much water you need it came out good. I did use butter instead of ghee, but it was nice and mild and a really good meal while I had an upset stomach. The recipe seems very forgiving, (super simple) and I think I'll switch it up a little next time by playing with the bean and rice ratio.All in all a versatile good spice mix for me and people like me who like flavor but can't handle capsaicin. When I get through the small bag I bought, I'm going to order the larger one.

Package arrived opened, so thankfully I got a refund, because this spice mix is not good at all. Do not recommend...especially if you've tried the Banyan mix!

I learned about Kitchari when I began learning about Ayurveda, the ancient India life science that includes diet. I have bout components for Kitchari at an Indian grocery in America, including the several individual herbs and spices. This premixed spices product is so convenient, delicious, and obviously high quality, that it makes preparing Kitchari much easier and faster. I highly recommend it. In the past I have bought it in a one pound plastic jar container, and I wish Jiva Organics would renew that availability.

4stars bc the directions aren't explicit. Gotta fry the spice mix for a bit, before adding water and rice, to remove the bitterness. I threw out my first batch made with this packet of kitcheree, nearly tossed the spice packet too.Now I know. And you do too.It's like making a brown roux:Fry spice powder + butter/ghee/ oil for a couple or 3 minutesThen mix in water and rice.Simmer 30-45 minAdd greens if desired. Salt and pepper.Machine wants taste and quality addressed in the review.Taste:Without frying spices, inedible. With frying the spices first, pretty decent.Quality? Can't say, not a kitcheree connoisseur.

I followed the recipe on the back of the package was very pleased with the overall taste. It's an easy spice blend to incorporate into many types of meals. The flavor is very good.
