VANDORENSM613B Jumbo Java T75 Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece (Black Ebonite)

I have used this Jumbo Java T75 tenor mouthpiece for about seven years now. It is one of my favorites. It is well suited for a bright rock type of sound. I find the control to be very good over the entire range of the horn (Selmer Mark VI). The high octave notes are loud and focused. The low notes are easy to play with control, as well . I have a Dave Guardala MB Fatboy II carbon-fiber mouthpiece that sounds and plays very similar to this Jumbo Java but costs three times more. The internal cavity geometry is quite similar between the FB II and the Jumbo Java T75. The external shapes (which have little or no impact on the sound) are not similar, the MB FB II being much more trim and of smaller, non-tapered outside diameter. For the price, this Vandoren Jumbo Java is an excellent buy if you are wanting a bright, metal like sound.

First off - this piece will not be for everybody. If Dukoff made a hard rubber mouthpiece, the Jumbo Java series, this would be it. I actually own a Dukoff D8, and the T75 is just as bright and edgy, but with more body/core, and I prefer this piece as my main MP. If I had a premium lig like a Silverstein, I would feel like I can do anything with this piece. Right now, I’m using a Rovner lig, and a Fibracell 4. I play a lot of funk, R&B, ballads, rock and for the content I play, this piece gets the job done done because I can get that sexy, edgy sound, and can still cut through amplified guitarists who are in love with hearing themselves. The tone & intonation is even from bottom to top, (which is a little surprising considering my Fibracell reed has a short vamp), and altissimo comes with ease. It’s free blowing, but with a slight amount of pushback. If you’re a cane type of person, I recommend keeping the reeds in the family and go with the green box Vandorens. The red box reeds were ok but they gave me this weird attack to my notes that sounded kinda chirpy - but that’s just me, it may be a little different for you.Unfortunately, this piece doesn’t come with a ligature. Boo.

Been playing my Dave Guardala Brecker II metal for the past 30 years and love it. But also have this JJ for my Alto and decided to get one for my Tenor which is my main Sax. Love this on my Tenor and will be my go mouthpiece moving forward. Well rounded, big tone in all registers and great intonation
