Q: Are these entirely natural? I want to use them in a Kamado oven which is ceramic so anything with chemicals etc must be avoided?

Hi, yes there appear to be completely natural. I use them in a kettle BBQ. They have no odour and do not appear to have any chemicals in them. They burn well and two is all that is required to get a full chimney of charcoal going.

Q: What are these made of?

It seems to be compressed paper/wood/fibre but very natural looking; and there is no smell when you light them. They burn for quite a long time and light charcoal really well ... I use them without a chimney starter and they light fine. Can thoroughly recommend.

Q: How many lighter cubes are required for the standard size chimney starter?

Hi,good question.Assuming charcoal is dry ,i have found one is usually adequate. By placing the lighter cube on a shovel or spade ,igniting it and waiting for it to properly catch fire , then place the chimney over it .This technique seems to allow extra air flow and a better flame .Also try to avoid overfilling the chimney , you dont want a raging inferno at the start of your cooking , unless you are searing a steak, happy bbq ing .

Q: Can it be used with lumpwood charcoal or only with briquettes?

The lighter cubes can absolutely be used with lump wood as well as briquettes. We would recommend that you use any of our lighter cubes along with our RapidFire Chimney Starter for the best result.
