I think it is good quality especially considering the price.
I just got it but it seems great. I am pretty picky so I would nail it if this was junk. The pocket clip has a super robust stainless bolt holding it on. It is the same bolt the blade hing pivots on. It looks like a very heavy duty rivet but on the oposit side is an allen head screw threading into it. Seems to be plenty good. The Tufhide handle is still some what rubber like, not cheep plastic as some have described. They seem to hit a nice happy medium between being rlubber too grabby to slip into your pocket verses slick hard plastic. The handle on mine feels slightly rubbery but I can not dig my finger nail in to it. The only thing I can find fault with is there is a sharp corner at the front of the part where the blade slips in and this will eat at my hand while in my pocket or my pocket. A bit of emory cloth or a diamond hone will take off that sharpness easy enough.I took a real chance and bought the inexpensive one, ~ $7, there was one listed for 17 and I figured for the lesser price I was going to get the cheepy plastic handled one as opposed to the rubber handled one. I am happy with my knife. It is quite good quality and materials for the price.Mine came with the thicker "heavy duty" blade; it measures with a caliper near enough to 1mm. The thinner normal box knife blade is about 0.6mm. The heavy duty blade fits pretty close to perfect in the knife. There is very little movement though there is some. With the 0.6mm blade in place there is almost no difference; a little more movement but not rattly.I may compress the housing some so it is a more snug fit since I sharpen my blades rather than throw new ones at the knife but that is just me.

good, but not great. Truth in advertizing; shoudn't just be a suggestion; more than just a good idea.
When you advertize your product having certain attributes in its main label/ description; It should really be THAT. Its the principle of the thing; not the quality of the product here. I like this knife a lot. It’s my second one. They are awsome. rugged, not flimsy. I'm not afraid it will fail or hurt me during use. feels solid and pretty comfortable to hold for lots of cutting; but the original was more comfortable for extensive use. And I can tell you for sure that they have changed it from its original design. My other one has a rubburized grip. I wore it out after years of constant use and it held up admirably. The grip is smoothed off and worn like a shoe sole. This one is just hard black plastic. NOT rubberized. I like the real rubberized version much better. It was much more comfortable. The reason I bought it in the first place; and was looking to buy another to replace it with. I was very happy to get another one, but disappointed it wasnt what it was. On the plus side it goes in and out of your pocket much easier. The rubberized one really "clings" to the inside of your pocket. Maybe that’s why they changed it and probably consider this an "improved design"; and I'm OK with that. I am NOT however OK with calling it something its not. "Rubberized." Its a big deal to me. So I'm still on the hunt for a rubberized handled utility knife. Guess it wont be one from GBR. and to GBR: since you mislabel your products; how can one really be confident that your products are "as described"? Really turns a person off from wanting to buy more of your prducts at worst; at best; makes people leary, and hesitant; probably go look for another source they can count on to be what it says it is.

Best folding utility knife for daily use
Great utility knife. Good handle and secure locking mechanism. I am a maintenance technician and use this knife at work and home everyday. It has held up great, the compact gerber "skeleton" type utility knife was worthless and broke soon after I bought it, this one is still holding up pretty well. The belt clip is starting to wear out the plastic and rotate but it still stays on. The generic utility blades don't fit very well (as with every other folding utility knife I have owned) and the blade retaining clip sticks up when using cheap generic blades (I filed it down flush).

The handle was so old it was rubbing off
When we opened this, the handle was literally falling apart. Think of a super old rubber/plastic shoe sole that has been sitting there for awhile and eventually crumbles in your hand. That is what the grip to this knife did. We returned it and ordered something else. We love Gerber, but this order was a real disappointment.

Texture wears off, Blade pulls out
Only one side of the handle is textured, it does have a comfortable grip but the texture wears significantly after a while. With minimal pull/push pressure the blade is pulled out of the housing. I have Used Stanley, Cobalt, and Dewalt blades all with the same result. It is lightweight and comfortable to use, just be careful. Disappointed in Gerbers quality through out most all models the last few years.

It's good.
I'm not a fan of the rubber handle because it's hard to clip on the inside of my pocket and my hand and keys, etc, drag on the rubber as I'm going in and out of my pocket. I didn't knock any points off for this and it's a good utility knife. The folding and locking mechanism is what sold me on these knives. No weird parts sticking out to snag your hands on.

Cheaply Made
I bought this thinking it would be an upgrade to the Milwaukee Fastback I use for work, I was mistaken. The Gerber handles are composite with only one steel insert in the frame, where as the Milwaukee handles are composite with two steel inserts. The tab that locks the blade into the knife doesn't sit flush when there's a blade installed. The handle is about a quarter of an inch shorter than the Milwaukee and also narrower, plus the finger groove in the handle is too small. The handle doesn't feel as good in the hand as the Milwaukee. Overall it just feels cheap. Lastly, the Gerber was $14 and the Milwaukee was $8.
