Best film ever

It's probably the best you'll get without rerecording the hole film in 4k. I can't help but say I prefer the original this just looks a bit zoomed in and pixilated on a 4k tv the pixels look really clear to the point you can see them floating It's a bit wave'e

This is based on a true story , Kathy Burke is marvellous as a battered and abused wife it’s quite shocking really , and violent and the language brace yourself.

Definitely one of my favourite films of all time. Pre order arrived on release day. Love that it's been remastered and comes with a book with lots of interesting information as well as some special features. Happy days 👍

If you like a good old kitchen sink drama, plenty of strong language, this one is for you, brilliant

Not everyone's cuppa all right, but Gary Oldman's first and last directed picture it's a brutally realistic tale about love in a London's working class family. A must see.

Written and directed by Gary Oldman, 'Nil By Mouth' (1997) is a wonderfully gritty drama. It tells the story of a diffusional family living in South East London, Oldman cast his sister Laila Morse in the plum role of a widowed mother who's son (played by Charlie Creed-Miles) is a drug addict and daughter (played by Kathy Burke) is in an abusive relationship (her husband is played by Ray Winstone).Morse is wonderful as the central character Janet, who lives with her elderly mother (played by Edna Dore) and despite it being her first ever acting role (at fifty!) - she was a natural. Standout performances come from Ray Winstone, who (predictably) excels as the violent husband, and Kathy Burke as his long-suffering, pregnant wife, who serves as his personal punchbag.This is a wonderful debut from Gary Oldman as the director, 'Nil By Mouth' is dark and violent but packed with unflinching honesty and grit. Not to mention, some of the strongest acting from British talent that I've seen in a while.Recommended!

In Gary Oldman's Nil by Mouth (1997) we follow three members of a family: wife Val (Kathy Burke), husband Ray (Ray Winstone), and Billy (Charlie Creed-Miles) Val's junkie brother, and their continued spiral into despair, living a Groundhog Day of emotional and physical abuse. It's a story about men. It questions the role of the father in a family. It highlights the absence of a good male role model and unsettlingly shows the devastating impact of an abusive present father.Oldman's staggering script talks about dysfunctional, unstructured adults living the same unhappy lives their parents lived, and one can only imagine the same will become of their children and their children's children. A never ending cycle of misery, where prison or death seem better options than living their lives. Oldman is a great scriptwriter; and of the quality he received from his cast, he is an actors' director too. Burke offers one of the greatest performances in British film and Winstone, in maybe his finest role, is perfect. Where other films akin to this offer hope, Oldman shows reality.This isn't your Saturday morning film, or your Sunday evening film, it's hard to know when to watch this, but watch it you must. A milestone in British film.
