Great product. I didn't expect it to include an adapter to fit my 1960s taps, but it could be used on both my bath and wash basin. Very easy to use and very well made. It should last an amateur a lifetime.

This is a decent enough tool and will get the job of reseating your tap done OK. It comes with a decent range of plastic threads to fit different tap sizes, these work well enough with a bit of care. There are also three cutters supplied. Perhaps my tap seat was pretty far gone but personally I found they made pretty hard work of restoring my tap seat to good order, more like 30 turns than six. After quite a bit of work and a new washer my tap did not drip so it has done the job. For occasional use this is OK but I'm sure regular users will pay a bit more to get something a little better.

I had three cold water taps that have been dripping badly for ages. The taps are 25 years old and the seats onto which the washers press down were badly corroded. My family had been complaining for ages and I had changed the washers many times, but this only reduced the dripping, rather than stopped it altogether.With this tap reseating tool, I was able to grind the seats down to give a nice smooth surface for the washers to press against. It took quite a long time before I could no longer see any channels in the metal surface for the water to escape through. (Use a torch and a magnifying glass to check.) If there are any imperfections in the surface, the water will find its way through and eventually enlarge the defect into a new channel and you're back to square one.Once done, I fitted new washers, reassembled the taps and turned the water back on - no more drips and no need to apply a tremendous torque to turn the taps off.Tip: The tool leaves lots of metal shavings in the tap. You don't want these to get stuck in the new washers, so to avoid this, leave the reassembled taps in the (half) on position before turning the mains water back on. This way, the flow flushes the shavings out before the washer is pressed against the new metal surface to turn the tap off, thereby trapping the shavings. Also, check any water for shavings before drinking it.I've now oiled the cutters with WD40 to prevent rusting and put the tool away since I'll probably need it again in 25 years time.

A bathroom tap began to drip as it was seldom tightened enough, and water between the copper and the washer had scored a channel in the valve seat that needed fixing. I also took the opportunity to convert the tap to a ceramic 1/4-turn mechanism while repairing the valve seat (TapMagician sells internals). Just like the previous washer, the base of a ceramic cartridge needs a good valve seat to seal itself against.After buying this, it took a while for me to pluck up the courage to actually do the job since it's a one-way process and I wanted to be sure there were no tricks I should be aware of. There are plenty of cheerful guides to the process on Youtube that encouraged me to have a go and I eventually got it done. The hardest part may actually be disassembling the tap if it has been left to its own devices for too long and everything is scaled up or it was overtightened in the past, but once the mechanism is out it's a doddle to do the grinding down part. The red collars (or yellow as shown in Amazon's image) have various sized threads that fit various tap types, and the three grinding faces also suit varying sizes of valve seats; with experience or a bit of trial and error you find the right ones and assemble the tool to do the job. I'd worried that the process would be hard to do because I'd need to keep the grinding tool flat to the valve seat, but of course the tool screws into the tap and sorts that out for me! It really is a case of getting the right tools for the job and making it look easy, and this was definitely the right one for me. It's also a damn sight cheaper than a plumber and now, after the abolition of slavery, you're no longer allowed to re-sell plumbers on Ebay anyway.

After several years of changing washers I finally decided that the taps would need relacing or should I try reseating them first. I bit the bullet and watched a You Tube guide and purchased this item, £10.60 with delivery. It arrived quickly.The procedure is straightforward and requires a little effort. I have reseated 4 taps. They are working OK, but I may have to do them again as it requires the taps to be turned off rather hard. That said they are not dripping. I think it is more a case of practise. Like most DIY, one becomes more proficient with the more you do, so 4 isn't many.It is well worth trying, considering the cost of replacement taps or a plumber's costs.

This tap seat cutter is exactly what's needed for dripping taps.. Very easy to use..works well.. suggest new washer each time it's used..gentle/ careful use, maybe check and cut again before finishing..and no more dripping tap.
