Yes, but that really doesn't affect the planter. They are not sharp screws, so there's no chance of getting cut by them when you are planting. This product is awesome!

Q: Can you use this as a fire ring if surrounded by bricks/paver blocks, etc?

I don’t know for sure. I don’t see why not. The middle of the ring may not last.

Q: Can you put a liner in it for bottom?

if you have a liner that will allow drainage the answer is yes. The bottom is completely open and can be placed over well worked soil.
