Simple to fit and works well.

So simple to fit. Just be sure to measure where the radiator supports are and height to bottom of radiator from tope of support. Instructions are very easy to follow and the whole job takes less than half an hour. Great result in reflecting heat back into room.

Low radiator brackets will need home made extension

I purchased two of the five packs of Radflek, the five packs were being sold by a different seller from the other packs and were discounted and better value. As these are designed to just hang from the top of the radiator brackets the first thing that concerned me was the top of my brackets were around 125 to 150 mm below the top of the radiator. As the top of the radiators is normally the warmest this area would go uncovered and defeat the objective of fitting the reflector. Also the area outside of the brackets is again not covered but an advantage of this is you cannot see the reflective foil at the side.I decided to make an attachment support to push on the radiator bracket, so the foil could sit on them, cutting these supports in length so the foil would just be an inch below the top of the radiator.Looking around my garage I found 25mm oval white plastic electric conduit. I cut a fine slot up both sides about 40mm deep, this would push over the radiator brackets, the length of the support was cut to finish 25mm below the top of the radiator so the foil wouldn’t be visible. On the top a small ‘V’ was cut in the middle, so the foil clips would sit into this V and be maintained central between the wall and radiator. It does state to maintain an air gap between the radiator and foil and the wall. The foil comes folded and needs to be opened out and smoothed flat, it’s easy to cut and the instructions are easily followed. When the clips are fitted along the top edge of the foil, these clips then sat into the supports I made when the foil was lowered behind the radiator holding it central. So does it save heat loss or make the room any warmer? Well the answer is I don’t know, I certainly didn’t feel any difference, but then again if the room has a thermostat it’s still going to operate at the same temperature so you shouldn’t notice the difference. Perhaps the room warms quicker or the boiler is not working so hard but difficult to measure that.I only fitted it on the radiators on outside walls. For the cost of the foil it’s worth trying I’m sure there will be some small improvement.

Good quality product with plenty of fixings supplied.

This pack provides a good quality product, very clear instructions and plenty of all the accessories to ensure successful fitting. It is intended for radiators fixed to exterior walls. We had 3 radiators we wished to use this on. - 2 standard sized and 1 small one. There is sufficient left, using the special tape provided for joining pieces, to do 2 more standard radiators, so we've been able to pass the rest on to our daughter to use.

I wish I'd bought this years ago.

I live in an old and very cold house with high ceilings and an ageing boiler. The heating has to be on for quite some time before the rooms warm up- and it never, ever gets really warm. So buying this was an attempt to keep a bit of extra heat in, rather than saving money. Frankly I just wanted to be warm. You get three big sheets in the pack. Each one is 120cm long and is like thick, very strong tin foil. You also get rods to attach to the top of the sheet which will help you hang it between the brackets of your radiator. Finally you get a couple of adhesive strips to join pieces together if you need to do so. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. You measure the gap between your radiator brackets, flatten the sheets out (there will still be creases but seriously this really does NOT matter) and cut the sheet to size. Then you attach the rods to the top and slide it into place behind the radiator. Sometimes this involves a bit of wiggling around or cutting a bit more off the edge if you've cut your sheet a little larger than needed but all in all it's really easy. I did three large radiators, one medium sized one and one tiny one with my three sheets and it took half an hour for the lot.So does it work?Yes I'm certain it does. We're a few days in and to be honest we noticed the difference immediately but wanted to wait a bit to be certain. The rooms warm up quicker and to a much warmer temperature. And they stay warmer for longer after the heating goes off. Our heating system finally feels efficient. Even upstairs (which I haven't done yet) feels warmer so it seems that the heat is rising through the house rather than disappearing into walls and outside. If you put your hand behind the Radflek sheet next to the wall, the wall feels cold so the heat must be coming back into the room. I'm convinced it's working and I'm getting some more to do the upstairs rooms.

Problem installation on long radiators

This reflecting product works well but would be far better sold in rolls to avoid wastage. It’s fine on short radiators with wall hangers near the top but the fixing strips are USELESS on log radiators especially if the hangers are mid height for the radiator and also have 3 hangers. My solution was to get a long thin batten (that will slip behind the radiator) and strategically fix risers to these over the hangers to raise the height appropriately. I then stapled the foil to the batten to drape behind the radiator. It really isn’t an easy fix for the challenged DIYer.
