I smoke and no matter how good you are, you are going to drop ashes if you are doing something else while smoking. I love that I can set this on my desk without taking the cigarette out. You actually wouldn't need an ash tray. These will be great in the car as it's always difficult to keep ashes from blowing around and if you should dump your ashes out the window, your cigarette would stay in place and not fly out the window or back in your face. Yes, it's a nasty habit, but it's also a messy habit and this contraption is quite comfortable to hold and smoke from (since your filter sticks out the end. You can merely set it down when you're done (contraption and all) and wait for it to completely cool before disposing. You should notice that the two grips can be pulled back and your cigarette laid in the clamps. You don't need to push the cigarette thru the hole as my hubby tried. Also, he no longer is dropping ashes everywhere, to include keeping his furniture, chairs and shirts clean and free from ash.
