Well Worth The Money but.........

It is pretty soft metal. Prime Line and Defender are the same company. Defender brand is how this product is packaged and those are the cheap 4" and 6" brass strike plates at HD/Wally etc. Now this is a decent grade product and better than the HD/Wally junk but not even close to Don Jo etc which is real 12ga steel. I don't know what this metal is but I can bend it in the middle with significant pressure but that is not truly relative to its holding power. A thief would have to bust out the screws and 2x4 as well as the plate so it is pretty secure. This model does have a very nice nickel finish on it for the price. If you change out the screws for 3 inch stainless screws for another dollar it will hold really good. Actually you only need the 6 screws that will go into the frame. It doesn't matter the quality of the 1.5" screws much because they are only going into the 3/4" jamb. I managed to get 8 screws to bite into the frame but I removed the door outer molding so I could see where the screws were going. It was easy to chisel out the print for plate and I was pleased with the install. This product is also much easier to install than a larger or longer quality strike plate. The 1/2 inch tabs are a nice touch to add some stability too. All in all I am pleased with the purchase after installing it and it looks nice. It is way more hassle to install an 18" to 48" professional strike plate at $25 to $65+. This is kind of a nice happy medium for quality, installation and price. I was going to take a star away for being soft metal but it is priced good for what you get and I don't see it really having much impact on the situation.

Well made

These are heavy weight, easy to install ,and I think add another layer of security to my door. I was impressed enough I ordered 4 more. The holes are oversized and allow for the house to settle and still fit.

A little extra security measure.

Heavy, polished brass. Screwed right into place in seconds. Some added piece of mind if some ne'er-do-well tries to kick in the door. Couple this with some long, reinforced screws, and you have a few additional seconds (if you're at home) to get ready. If you're not at home, all the extra kicking and pounding will a) draw attention to the nefarious crime in progress and/or b) wear out the scoundrel and they move along.

Important Product to protect your family

Great Product, easy to install and a must have upgrade to protect your home and family. Suggestions on installation: "Use duct tape to hold the plate in place and make sure the door closes and seals properly. Then mark your holes before screwing down". I used an impact cordless drill to install but if you just have a standard cordless drill you will want to pre-drill. When I installed the plate, I winged it and my door has a gap and does not seal all the way so I figured out that using Duct Tape would be the best way to get it lined up correctly. Now I will have to uninstall and drill out and glue wooden dowels in the holes so I can re-install before the summer heat starts to leak in. overall great quality product.

A very good product for security but ... do not use the included screws.

Finally a guard that actually fits my door. Whoever installed the door drilled the deadbolt and the lever lock at a weird/not standard distance. As a result, I have been unable to find such a guard until now. With the oversized cutout for the latch, and the deadbolt, I was just able to attach this. It is very sturdy and yes, it looks a bit ugly when you view it installed since you can see the previous cutout/mortise but, the name of the game is security, not some beauty pageant. The only CON is that the screws need to be scrapped for better ones. The thread is approx. 5/32-inch but the shank, which is important, is only 1/8 inch. This is way too narrow for such a depth. The other problem is that these have a fine thread which creates more torque required when it hits an area you could not predrill too.So, I decided to "test drive" the screws, in an inconspicuous area, and of the three I tested, two went in and one sheared. When I tried to take out the other two screws, both sheared as too much torque was required. So, why bother using them? You are obviously installing this for added security (and this is a great product) so, by scrimp? Just go and buy some GOOD quality screws to secure your entrance. While you are at it, get a few extra and put longer screws in your latches, and at least one in each hinge if you have not done so

Heavy Duty

I bought three of these to secure my door latch. These things are heavy duty. I put it in a dummy door and tried to break the door frame and it would not give in no matter how hard i tried. These are great for added door security. I feel safe knowing i have these on all my doors. I live in a area where home invasions are high so i def needed this to stay safe. The screws that come with this are junk. DO NOT USE THEM. Instead go out and buy yourselves long 3/16 Diameter x 3-1/4" length concrete anchor screws. These are heavy duty screws and will not break off. Also to prevent from cracking the door frame, it's best to first drill holes before putting your screws in. I did the mistake of just screwing the anchor screws in and it split the a piece of the door frame in two. Use a drill bit to make holes in the holes of the striker plate before screwing so it goes in nicely.Overall this product is very sturdy and will do the job. Just remember to buy your own screws and DO NOT use the screws that come with the striker plate. They are cheap and will break apart.
