Milkweed is not super easy to grow from seed. I dont really have the patience for it.
The seeds were fine. They seemed to be healthy. It's just that growing milkweed from seed was a challenge for me.

Sprout easily
I was able to start them in spring by putting them in the freezer for a bit.I had been told it would be hard to start these seeds. Great buy, we are expecting Monarch Butterflies.

Good germination rate
I sowed the seeds in Winter on a section of bare soil (SE Pennsylvania) and got over 30 milkweed plants that Spring. There is quite a bit of variation in germination time and growth rate so be patient.I was expecting neither flowers nor monarch caterpillars this season but I got two flowering plants and six caterpillars (that I know of).I was able to transfer some plants to other areas but I did so when they were less than 6” tall; the taproots are long and require relatively deep digging.Thankfully, rabbits do not seem interested in eating milkweed; my unprotected seedlings did just as well as my unprotected. The reason I gave three stars for value is that I can get free seeds from milkweed plants growing in a retention pond nearby. But I will probably buy another 4-pack of this product because I like the different varieties.

Patience is needed for these..
If you want to start these off indoors (started ours off in mid-January), sandwich the seeds between damp, not soaking, paper towels, enclosed in a zipper bag and place in the fridge where they cannot be disturbed for at least a month. A process called stratification. It does say on each package they are notorious to germinate.I then just planted the seeds in the individual, enclosed 12 cell seedling tray with a soil heating pad to keep seedling compost warm and they germinated within 3-4 days!I suppose you could sow them over-winter outdoors, but then its gonna be a quest to know when the weather does get milder, which weed out there germinating is what you sowed!

I’ll update my review over time if anything changes
I followed the instructions on the packet and my seeds are in moist paper towels in the refrigerator. It’s been 2 weeks and 2 days, no sprouting from any seeds so far.I planted some directly from the package into my garden as well 2 weeks and 2 days ago just to see. Also no sprouting so far.If anything changes I’ll update my rating/review. I’m not new to gardening but I am new to growing milkweed, so maybe I need to just try a different technique. Possibly just being impatient as well lol.Update:Okay I’m 4 weeks in! Refrigerator method absolutely didn’t work. I put 20 seeds from each packet in 4 different cups of water for a little over a week. I changed the water out twice daily and kept the temp between 75 and 77 degrees. All the seeds sprouted except for one packet and I cannot tell you which because I didn’t label the cup like a dumbo. The seeds I put directly in my garden started sprouting about 7-10 days ago and are already little seedlings! I guess I’ll need to thin them out now. Didn’t expect that many to actually grow lol.Update to the update: turns out all the sprouts were a million pepper plants and I’m literally so confused right now. I absolutely did not plant peppers. 😅 I don’t know what’s happening honestly but I don’t remember the seeds looking like pepper seeds. Either way, little to no milkweed plants.

Nothing Sprouted
I followed instructions. Planted in the fall. Been water and waiting. NOTHING sprouted out of 2 packages. We have had amazing growing weather. VERY Disappointing.

Zone 7 milkweed patch a raging success
I am so happy with these seeds. I initially planted a small patch last year in the spring, with the common milkweed and butterfly weed varieties after 8 weeks of cold stratification. True to milkweed fashion they took so long to come up that I almost gave up hope, but then there they were! My patch was right near zinnias and a butterfly bush, and was devoured by the monarch caterpillars which was the goal. It's now their second year, and there are so many milkweed shoots coming up!! I love it, they're coming up in sets of 2-4 shoots so safe to say they have multiplied exponentially. So far it seems like it's just the common milkweed coming back, there's only one that looks different like butterfly weed, but it's still early so we'll see. And honestly there's not really room for all the butterfly weed to come back at the rate they've multiplied. I also planted some of last year's leftover seeds that will hopefully sprout by the end of the month, we'll see if they do since they're older now, but I have high hopes.

fall planted in NWO and I have a bunch growing!
I fall planted in a few spots, but only one area really took. Still, I have about a dozen of them growing now! Hopefully it's a native kind.

Not worth it!!!
Horrible. 0 germination!

Good germination rate
Used 6 weeks in freezer followed by a day soaking in paper towel and 6 weeks in fridge in a wet paper towel. Both worked but fridge slightly better probably because of extra time bring moist prior to planting.
